Neil Charlton  (Cello)

Neil Charlton graduated from Kingston University with a BA in Music Education. After this, he studied for a further two years at Trinity College London on a performance course. During these two years, Neil specialized in chamber music: he was a founder member of the Miklos String Quartet, with whom he represented Trinity College in three international quartet festivals. The highlight of these festivals was performing the Brahms Clarinet Quintet with Thea King in Gloucester Cathedral.

Orchestrally, Neil has played with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchesta, the BBC Radio Orchestra and the BBC Concert Orhestra.  He is a regular member of the West Forest Sinfonia and he has played the solo part for them in Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante. This is Neil’s nineteenth season as principal cellist of the Slough Philharmonic and his fourth appearance as soloist. The three previous appearances as soloist have been in Haydn’s C major concerto, Bruch’s Kol Nidrei and Herbert’s second cello concerto.

Neil spends most of his week teaching in schools and colleges in Berkshire and Surrey, and he tries to grab every spare minute to squeeze in some practice!
